Rumours
AR VINYL
DECEMBER 2024
For this project, I redesigned the album cover for the iconic album “Rumours” by Fleetwood Mac, and I created an interactive augmented reality experience to go along with it.
THE PROCESS:
MOODBOARD & SKETCHES
A huge inspiration of mine was a project called “This Cover” which I discovered through Behance. I’ve included screenshots of some of their AR. I decided early on that I wanted to recreate the Rumours album cover with a crystal ball, as a nod towards the crystal ball in the original album cover. I sketched out this crystal ball and then decided that I also wanted to keep the original typography.
COVER DESIGN ITERATIONS:
For the album cover design, I began by illustrating the crystal ball along with re-incorporating the original logo into the cover. I knew I wanted to keep the original color palette that the cover design has, so I experimented with seeing how I can draw emphasis to the crystal ball using these colors. Eventually, I decided that I liked the swirling motion of the crystal ball the most so I further refined that design.
AR ILLUSTRATIONS/COMPONENTS:
For the AR component, I decided to create animations that come from different references in the songs on the album. It includes a songbird singing, a heart breaking, chains linking together, an eyeball blinking, a black widow crawling, as well as the crystal ball and text from the album cover.

QR CODE CARD INCLUDED INSIDE VINYL:
Now that all of the print components were completed, I was able to include the AR experience as well. This AR is designed to immerse people who purchase the vinyl into the world of the album, listening to the music in an entirely new and innovative way.
FINAL INTERACTIVE DESIGN MOCKUPS:
AUGMENTED REALITY:
BRINGING THE VINYL TO LIFE
Using a combination of Adobe Aero, Dimension, After Effects, and Illustrator, I created an augmented reality component for the vinyl. Collecting vinyl records is a very popular thing to do, and many of these records are “limited edition” pressings or come with a special poster, so I thought it could be cool to include a QR code in the vinyl sleeve to incorporate an augmented reality experience for the consumer. I really think this could be heavily utilized in future record pressings for artists.
